In June the Society received a gift of 2.6 acres of land from PBS Rentals president and owner, Blaine Spanjer. The land is adjacent to the 20-acre tract already owned by the Society that houses the Benne Memorial Museum, the Jesse Bickle Farmstead, and District #1 Start school. The additional property connects to the current holdings at its northwest corner, and is located along the Big Blue River east of Tuxedo Park road. The Society will do minimal clearing on the land, and use the property for nature walks and other outdoor educational activities. It will also continue to serve as wildlife habitat, as the Society acreage is home to many species of birds, small mammals, deer, and other wildlife. This is a wonderful donation, and will enhance our current property by giving us more river bottom and woodland space for educational activities. We are so grateful that Blaine thought of our organization when considering a use for this particular piece of land.
