Upcoming Events at the Crete Heritage Society
Musician Charley Groth
to perform
(Crete, Ne.) The Crete Heritage Society is
planning several events during the fall and winter seasons beginning with a
ÒMusic at the MuseumÓ program later this month. On September 27 a special evening of traditional and country
music will be held featuring international artist Charley Groth
and The Kramer Sisters of Crete.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. at the Benne Memorial Museum, 800 West 13th
Street, and refreshments will follow the performance. A nominal fee will be charged with proceeds going to the
exhibit fund.
Groth is a Florida-based performer who crosses musical
borders as easily as geographical ones.
He is a strong vocalist who also plays guitar, mandolin, slide guitar/dobro, piano/keyboards, and other instruments. The recipient of many music awards, Groth regularly shares his talent in Europe and New
Zealand. He also makes annual
appearances for Homestead MonumentÕs summer campfire program series in
Beatrice.
The Kramer Sisters, a popular local group
that specializes in harmony vocals, will also perform vintage music including
old-time traditional, country, Czech, and tunes from the Big Band era.
Musicians include Janet Jeffries, Dawn Mundt, and Sue
Underwood.
A quilt show, ÒCabins and Stars,Ó will open
at the Benne Museum in late fall featuring log cabin quilts, and various quilts
and wall hangings that incorporate stars. A winter tea, facilitated by Tere Francis of Wilber is also planned.
The Crete Heritage Society is preparing a
nostalgic 2009 calendar that will feature historic photos from the SocietyÕs
collection. The calendar is
expected to be completed in October, and will be for sale at the museum, and
other local businesses.
